Although they were both active during the same half-century, pianist Earl Hines and vibraphonist Lionel Hampton rarely had the opportunity to play together. This quintet set from 1977 finds the immortal pair joined by bassist Milt Hinton, drummer Grady Tate and Sam Turner on congas, jamming contentedly on standards like Hampton's "Earl's Pearl" and Hines's "One Night in Trinidad." Few surprises occur, but the music swings hard and is quite enjoyable.
