Warren Bernhardt on the piano is like a companion you seek out for conversation that is relaxing and engaging at the same time. He`s a fine friend, and his congeniality is nicely balanced by Jay Anderson on bass and Donny Gottlieb on drums. In an environment that equates pleasantness with cloying sentimentality and sweetness, Bernhardt is an example of how delightful musical intelligence can be. The DMP recording, by the way, is transparently superb.
